Founded in 1888 by three French and Belgian scholars (A. Marignan, G. Platon and M. Wilmotte), the journal Le Moyen ?ge was originally little more than a bulletin of information and critical reviews for Francophone medievalists. Progressively, the journal gained the support of regular contributors and preeminent scholars which, thus, allowed for a broadening of the scope of work. Henceforth, it would be dedicated to history and ancillary sciences, on the one hand, and to literary history and philology of the Middle Ages, on the other. This original character is quite rare among the other journals dedicated to medieval studies.
