一、說話人在前，語言在后

這是最基本的也是最常見的形式。例如“老子說：‘你就是仲尼啊，聽說你要來，我就在這里迎候。研究學問你不比我差，為什么還要拜我為師呢？’”（《孔子拜師》）。這種形式的對話，“說”字后面用冒號。

二、語言在前，說話人在后

這種形式的人物對話描寫有加強語言效果的作用。例如“‘我為你們?nèi)齻€人的健康喝了三口?！⑿χf?！保ā缎腋Ｊ鞘裁础罚?。這種形式的對話，“說”字后面用句號。

三、把一次說的話，分成前后兩部分來寫，中間交代說話人
